Fashion week in New York always sets the tone of what to expect for spring and summer trends. This year not only had us going crazy over patterns and new outfit designs, we also loved the hair. Hair is a huge part of runway fashion and usually for the everyday person, there’s a trickle down effect that finally reaches our salons by the beginning of summer. Here’s what we’ve gathered from this year’s hair trends for all hair types! 1.) Blondes have more fun!
Platinum blonde hair is out, but that doesn’t mean that blondes aren’t still running around breaking hearts. More and more we’re seeing people of all races, colors and genders going blonde. What’s more is that there’s such a broad spectrum of what we’re considering blonde. A tone that we're seeing that flatters those with cool undertones is going Dark Ash Blonde. A touch of a darker color at your roots to an ombre of a dark brown is a more natural and subtle color lift and absolutely fits the beach atmosphere. Brassy blonde and strawberry blonde are both making a comeback in using both colors together to make dark skin and fair skin tones stand out. Rose gold is also the color du jour, as the peach shade can be adjusted to complement any complexion. If you do decide to go blonde for the summer and you don’t end up having fun, you’re doing it wrong. 2.) Bangarang Bangs! Remember that one time you grabbed the scissors from your mother’s sewing drawer and gave yourself a new fringe? You’re parents ended up having to give you a bowl cut to even out the monstrosity of a hairstyle you had fashioned on your head. It was a good idea at the time, right? Well, surprisingly, that choppy, “my kid did it” look of cutting your own bangs is coming back. And much to my delight, bangs aren’t just for people with straight hair anymore. Curly headed girls are getting into this trend, too. So whether or not you have kinky curly hair or fine pencil-straight hair, anyone can pull off bangs this summer. We do recommend that you see someone to cut your bangs professionally, though, because hindsight is always 20/20. 3.) Sleek, Wet Looking Hair! We absolutely love this look because it doesn’t matter the length or texture of your hair, anyone can pull it off. Now note, there’s a difference between gelled hair and greasy hair, so if you’re thinking “I already rock this look on my third day without washing my hair!” sit down, smelly. This look can really only be attained with the proper product. Using the wrong product for your hair type can lead to frizz, grease and even heavy dandruff from product buildup. Find out what gel products will hold on your hair to give it that extra shiny sleek look and start rocking it. We love this style on pixie cuts as well as on longer locks because it really looks like you just finished shooting an Aqua Di Gio commercial. Sexxxy. 4.) 70’s and 80’s Hair! Curls and waves have always been trendy, but now the style is to get as close to replicating looks from the 70s and 80s. From shaggy bobs to big curly extremes, the past always tends to repeat itself. For those of us rocking natural hair, afro puffs are coming back something fierce! We’re just hoping that the perm stays firmly in the 80’s along side that hilarious jerry-curl. 5.) Hair Accessories Better call your little sister and tell her you need to borrow her berets. Hair accessories aren’t just for little girls anymore. For a long time, the only hair accents you would see most women wear were headbands: either super thick or extra slim. Now, it’s fun to have something besides a headband in your hair. We loved last year the “pierced” look that started near the end of summer but we haven’t seen the end of that trend. Dressing hair up with glitter, color and a lavish accessory is sure to turn all the heads. Break those necks, queen!
