Netflix and Chill?

Back in the day when you wanted someone to come to your place to try to sex them up, you’d have to be subtle and say something suggestive like “I have the box set edition of Friends” or whatever Sharon from your office was into. Now, we’re lucky enough to just have the code words “Netflix and chill?” and somehow, it mostly works! Netflix, Hulu and HBO Now have all changed the lazy day dates for everyone in the best of ways and some of the greatest summer nights are spent on the couch binge watching your favorite new shows. Here are some of the most anticipated shows and movies coming to the big screen and your laptop for those hot, hazy nights.

Netflix
If you’re like me, you’re mourning the loss of X-Files on Netflix in April. Their rotating list can seem a little chaotic for those who don’t like change, but the new shows and movies added always seem to stack up to what was removed. This month, they added a whole slew of 90’s movies and TV shows including all three movies of the Jurassic Park franchise as well as The Real Ghostbusters cartoon which is everything. If you’re feeling less nostalgic, another season of Better Call Saul and Archer were both respectively added. Coming in May, we’ll have new seasons of Sense 8 to curb your Stranger Things addiction until October and House of Cards with our favorite corrupt politician… wait a minute; Yep, he’s definitely still the favorite. Have kids or babysitting? Netflix added a wonderful book to film adaptation of BFG (Big Friendly Giant, not at all what I thought it stood for) and the movie Secret Life of Pets is fun for everyone, no matter your age.

The Silver Screen
Summer screams huge blockbusters, hopefully none with Michael Bay directing them, ick. Looking past the fact that people are somehow still going to see Fast and Furious movies as opposed to just YouTubing the drama between The Rock and Vin Diesel, the line up for movies from May to June is looking pretty amazing. From Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to Pirates of the Caribbean : Dead Men Tell No Tales, it seems like the summer of sequels. In Ridley Scott’s case, we’re not sure whether to call his Alien: Covenant a prequel or sequel, we’re just thrilled we get to see Danny McBride in something not dude comedy related. We’re sure that Baywatch will live up to its goofy yet sexy namesake and hopefully, if nothing on her has popped on her, we’ll get to see a Pamela Anderson Cameo. In June, Tom Cruise will redeem his super creepy Scientologist- self in the new and improved story of The Mummy, which stars a beautiful woman and features less satirical banter. I honestly cannot wait for Wonder Woman’s feature film and if you’re in Miami, I’m sure you’ll want to see the summer thriller 47 Meters Down, because what is life at a beach without a terrifying shark movie?

Hulu
If you haven’t signed up for Hulu yet, you should. After all, you do get 30 days free. Hulu is like Netflix’s little brother that started out small and quickly became just as big and popular. Hulu has been creating stupendous originals as well as adding shows other streaming services don’t have access to. The Handmaid’s Tale is easily binge-watchable for a show you can’t find anywhere else. Their show Harlots is also taking the internet by storm featuring some pretty hardcore women. This spring Hulu seems to have jumped on the bandwagon of bringing back movies and shows from the 80’s and 90’s like The Warriors, Robo Cop and Ferris Buller’s Day off. If you feel like having your head explode you can watch Robbie Coltrane, otherwise known as Hagrid, be accused of rape in a mini series for Hulu-only called National Treasure. Conversely, laughing is more of a summer trend and the Mindy Show will have one final season and there’s always the wonderfully funny Workaholics. The diversity of Hulu’s programming is a sure fire way to find something to fit any mood this summer.

HBO Go/ HBO Now
Does anyone really care about anything other than Game of Thrones? This new season is already so full of hype that we can barely wait until July, but in the mean time, we’ll have to work with what we’ve got. Suicide Squad was added to soak up some of your time on the couch, but many people are opting more towards shows to binge. The Leftovers and VEEP both added another premiering season to the roster on HBO and everyone’s favorite nerds come back with a new season of Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, we still have to wait a bit longer to see what the hell is going on in Westworld but HBO continues to deliver with movies and shows that you absolutely cannot watch anywhere else for the perfect summer couch marathons.

Long story short, with the help of these movies, shows and streaming services, you won’t have to do much this summer except for push some buttons to watch whatever you’re in the mood for. It is a failsafe way to ensure if your summer body isn’t ready yet, you don’t even have to leave your house for a good time. So cancel those plans you made with Karen, that bitch, and call up Matt and tell him to bring some wine and nachos for Netflix and Chill.
