“Oh my God, Mexico was so amazing!” How many times have you heard a friend say that? Too many, I’m guessing. Traveling to popular destinations is a safe bet when you’re not too sure where you’d like to end up. However, the same vacation plan year after year is outdated and manila. Exploring those underrated and beautiful countries that haven’t been spoiled by the ever-so annoying American-tourist culture traps is a new adventure for anyone with wanderlust. Slovenia Burrowed right in between the grape-riddled land of Italy and the Game of Thrones epicenter of King’s Landing, Croatia, is a small and somehow undervalued gem of a country: Slovenia. Beautiful rivers, high mountains, and Mediterranean beaches make this country a hidden treasure for travelers that like a little bit of everything during their vacation. Relatively cheap as far as Europe goes, you can trek through the country knowing you won’t burn too big a hole in your pocket. Malaysia Asia has always been a continent of wonder to the western world. From China to Japan, people have been traveling to the hot spots of Asia for centuries but one place that really stands out is Malaysia. The country functions somewhere between the cultures of Indian, Chinese and Malay which means food and experience varies immensely depending on where you are. One place in particular that has tourists clamoring to stay is Jellyfish Lake. The lake features jellyfish that over time have lost their ability to sting due to isolation, but if you’re going to see it, now is the time. Unfortunately, El Nino has taken its toll on the environment and the lake is losing jellyfish and subsequently last year was closed to the public. Hurry and make sure you bring a waterproof camera to show pictures that will outdo Kelly’s spring break photos Cancun. Thailand Speaking of Asia, Thailand is killing it as far as tourism is concerned. The most expensive part of your vacation is your plane ticket, but after that, it’s easy to live like kings and queens on a dime if you know where to book. Thailand is a beautiful country filled with stunning Buddhist temples and now has become a new world wine destination! If beaches are more your style, Thailand offers some of the purest beaches in the world at some of the cheapest resorts which is obviously a win-win. Bolivia OMG! if you haven’t looked up Bolivia’s salt flats, you’re missing out! This country boasts some of the best landscapes in South America. Much like Peru, Bolivia is a nation that has preserved much of the history and culture for centuries and because of that, makes it a delightfully authentic vacation spot. The people of Bolivia are amazingly friendly and hospitable and the food is to die for. If you’re the thrill seeking type, you can take your chances traveling on Yungas Road, which was aptly named The Most Dangerous Road in the World. (Source) South Africa South Africa is a country with a terrible history but a beautiful future. Visiting this country was one of the best experiences of my life and I can’t do its justice with just words, but I’ll try. What makes South Africa so unique is there is an attractive element of city soul that is right in the middle of a wondrous natural ecosystem. There’s no need to choose between night life and a safari: Here you can do both. The best part of visiting this country is seeing how far the nation has come in a moderately short amount of time. The graffiti of Nelson Mandela can be seen almost everywhere and it is truly is like no other place on Earth. Make sure to visit the vineyards while you kick back and enjoy some Pinotage.
